[ The Hogwarts Express is packed, and for all Lightning is about as social as her awful horned toad familiar, better the devil you know. So she knocks against the frame of Claudia's carriage, eyeing up the empty seat opposite. ]

[Claudia has something of a reputation.

She is loud, focused, and as some would say, bossy. She knows what she wants and she gets there with ease. There's a reason she's a prefect - if anyone can single handedly swoop in and disarm (figuratively and metaphorical) a group of partying Gryffindors after hours, it's Claudia.

There's also the fact that if any of the male population of Hogwarts mistreats her, they usually have to answer to her brother. That helps some.

But once you get past all that, Claudia is fiercely loyal. Right now, as she inspects a letter she's penning to her older brother Federico, there's just her and two other girls, both asleep. Well, and her snowy owl, gifted to her by her younger brother, which she pets absently with one hand. The knock and the following question, then, is for her to answer.

Her owl looks up, but does nothing else.]

[As ever Aurora is as Aurora does - Hogwarts is dark with flashes of colour but not so her; her dress is gold with yellow trim to match the crown atop her head and her long pink hair is streaming behind her like a banner. Half-blooded Gryffindor girl even though the red clashes horribly with her hair as Cordelia pointed out.

Of course both her stepsisters are Slytherins.

The castle is ever so dull really when she has to keep Igniculus hidden away for such silly reasons and there are far more interesting people she's met in the forest (like Finn and Robert, not that people know about them because Norah hates anything resembling a mouse ever so much.) So that's why she's always running off here to visit friends.]

Gen? Dearest Gen my merfriend. [Perhaps not a perfect rhyme but she's running barefoot and trying not to slip in the wet grass as she skids to a halt with her toes curling over the banks of the lake.] I have toast for our host! [So you know pop up before she throws toast on your head because that'd be rude and so she doesn't plonk her tootsies on your head because hey, this is what you do at a lake even if the water is frightfully cold.]

[ Hello friend Gen is here, surfacing in a spray of greenish water. Since they last talked she's found some poor Slytherin's lost scarf, and is wearing it wrapped around her waist. ]

You brought toast? I am glad. Here's nothing but weeds to be had. [ HAND OUT GIMME. It's not been the same since the rule forbidding throwing sweets to the giant squid. At least he shared. ]

[It's the first day of the school term, after the standard celebratory feast and the sorting, and this is Nowi's favourite time of the school year, because right now, for this small, blissful moment, she's not being hounded at by her various professors to why she hasn't done her homework yet.

(It's not like she doesn't do it, it just seems to be handed in exactly one minute before a deadline so she always manages to pass. Somehow.)

It also means her fellows are not so caught up in OWLs or NEWTs to forget the fact that guys, we should have some fun!

This morning, she has a free period, and most of her usual ragtag crew don't (booooo), so Nowi decides to sit at the top of the stairs leading out of the Great Hall to inspect the departing students. At the moment, it's a crowd of first years. Maybe one of them will be up for mischief?]

[Out of desperation and a plain shortage of willing Defence Against the Dark Arts professors on a cursed position, the latest of the annual professors is one Simon Blackquill, ex-Ravenclaw student of Hogwarts, wizarding prodigy and now a criminal convicted of murder. He spends most of his time in Azkaban, but is portkeyed in and out of Hogwarts every weekday to teach classes. He isn't allowed a wand, which makes teaching classes... interesting, and he's attended on by an Auror at all times.

Rumours circulate about how he's been driven mad by seven years' worth of incarceration with nothing but Dementors for company, or that he can use magic even without a wand, or that his pet hawk is actually some magical creature in disguise that haunts the castle. But he's serious about doing his job well, at least. And merciless to lazy, dim-witted or slow students. Good luck passing his class unscathed?]

Just look at all these eager faces-- well, no, most of the Gryffindors are suspicious at best and terrified at worst, but Athena Cykes ain't most Gryffindors. As she isn't right now, whilst the class attentively scribbles down notes about unicorns. Leia started that, sure, but got distracted by the thought of how marvelous it would be to deal out punishment to wrongdoers with her awesome (mediocre) magic skills and badass martial arts skills and a unicorns grace and poise. They'll balance each other out!

Except, she realises the class has stopped scribbling and have declined to ask questions and Leia has no idea what has passed in the past five minutes. Okay, ten, maybe.]
